Let me say right from the start that malt derived from barley is NOT gluten free. If you run into a product that declares itself malted, such as malt vinegar or a malted milkshake, your alarm bells should go off. Here “malt” means malted barley and thus gluten. 2014-07-16 Malt vinegar is not classed as gluten free in all countries, so I guess it's down to the individual coeliac tolerance level to gluten.
